Herbal Medicine

Menopause may sound like a disease or an ailment, and although some women may feel like it, it s not.

This condition is referred to as a natural transition that occurs for all women when they reach a particular age. Menopause is a period at "mid-life" when a woman has her last period.

Chinese traditional medicine is a system quite different with western medicine system. ¡¡ãMedical treatment is not to be given to those who have fallen ill, but to those who are not ill.¡¡À This precept comes from the Classic of Internal Medicine.(written about 3000 years before) It means that attempts to cure a disease should not be made after the disease has been incurred.

The Chinese herbal tradition is believed to date back some 4,000 years to the Emperor Shen Nong (or Chien Nung). He is said to have described over: 300 medicinal plants and their uses in a book called the Pen Tsao. Although versions of several ancient pharmacopoeia still exist today, the main surviving text on herbalism is the book by the physician Li Shih-chen describing almost 2,000 herbs and 10,000 herbal remedies, and written in the 16th century.

As well as the herbalism of trained physicians, there is also a folk tradition of herbal medicine in China.

With the increase in the popularity of alternative and natural health solutions, many of the time-honored medical traditions of the east, such as the use of ginger root, are exciting the interest of clinical researchers. Ginger has a long history of medicinal use, particularly in traditional Chinese medicine and the Ayurvedic healing traditions of India.

Why are men so difficult when they have to confront their sexual health? Men do not hesitate to take charge of established businesses and start up new ones or help our children and neighbors cope with their own crises, but when men have a sexual problem, they suddenly feel all alone and adrift without any sense of where to turn. But sexual problems have always been somehow different, not something easy to talk about because they are frankly too personal or private. This is how the health profession goes on nowadays - a cycle of diagnosis and prescription.

If anyone were to give you herbs for medicine, you would probably say that that person was a quack.

But nowadays, studies are being conducted to see if there are really is any merit to what is called natural medicine.

Natural medicine is the use of natural methods, herbal medicines, and traditional practices to heal ailments.

Writing from my own personal perspective from my years of work and research in the Amazon Rainforest with the shamans and curanderos who drink the visionary plant brew called Ayahuasca. I use the term `shaman' as a convenience as this title has only been `imported' from the West into the Amazon quite recently in the past thirty years or so. A more appropriate general term could be `vegatilista' or a seer and healer who work with plants from not only the physical or medicinal aspect but who are also in communion with the soul of the plant.

The basil is a herbaceous annual culture plant, ramified from the ground, 20-60 cm tall with hairy stems, round-oval leaves and white or reddish flowers.
